A one euro coin has turned up in Spain bearing the face of cartoon couch potato Homer Simpson instead of that of the country’s king. Spanish sweet-shop owner Jose Martinez was counting the cash in his till in the city of Aviles when he came across the coin where Homer’s bald head, big eyes and big nose had replaced the serious features of King Juan Carlos.

‘The coin must have been done by a professional, the work is impressive,’ he said. So far, no other coins of the hapless, beer-swilling oaf have been found in circulation.

Has anyone else found a Homer Simpson euro coin?

Just read on LidlTreats.com that they are going to try and beat the recession by living on €50 a week for all their food shopping, in Lidl

Here’s the scenario: your personal recession is REALLY biting, you are broke, broke, broke, the kitchen shelves are looking bare and it’s a whole 7 days till the next paycheck lands.

After allowing for absolute essentials like petrol or fares, rent or mortgage and a couple of drinks on Friday night, you have just €50 and some small change left. Between two of you.

So, can you feed two people for a week for around €50? And I mean feed two people well - not on cheapo pizza and stodge.

The Irish Times has stopped charging people for reading its content online, and launched a new irishtimes.com website. The redesigned irishtimes.com aims to reflect the changing demands of online readers. The simplified and improved structure of the site is intended to keep pace with internet-user demand by helping readers find what they want quickly.

The new site is planned to bring readers easily from one story to another on related topics, or related websites, and it will develop many multimedia features. The restoration of The Irish Times title online is designed to make the newspaper the dominant media website in Ireland in the 21st century. The change from a subscription model to a free newspaper on irishtimes.com is a further instalment in the biggest editorial development programme in the history of the newspaper, embarked upon last February with the redesign and modernisation of The Irish Times and the launch of new supplements.

On the back page of April’s PC Live! there is an advert for Misco.ie. One item in the list was a DVD Player with HDMI and best of all, this item is only €39.99. So I went onto their website and began searching for this DVD player. But to no avail, I couldn’t find it anywhere. Its not like it was even listed with an “Out of Stock” notice or anything like that, it just wasn’t there. At all.

So, a quick email to their customer service/support address would sort this out. Or so I thought. First reply back from them was the ubiquitous “We will get back to you within 24 hours” email. Fair enough, everyone seems to have one of those these days. When their replay did come in, it stated they could confirm that said item DID exist on their website, and gave a link to it too.

But. There’s always a but. The link was for the UK website, which only allows UK shipping addresses. I tried a couple of the usual tricks; Register on the Irish site and login to the English site -> didnt work. Copied the URl from the English site and changed it to the dot IE version, -> didn’t work. So I emailed them back. They replied with a link to a completely different product, but at least it was on the Irish website!

Anyway, I replied again to the support email stating this was not the product I wanted. Then the reply I did not want to see, “Sorry, but that product is only available on our UK website. Sorry for the inconvenience.”. Thats great, but why advertise it in the first place in an Irish publication if you cant get it!.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr….
